Start your no-till garden: the 3 techniques I wish I was taught when I started.
You don't own a tiller. You don't want to rent one. How do you turn your yard into a garden? How do you prepare the soil... without tilling? (or not)
Hopefully, you’ve read my series on no-till organic gardening, and you’re bought into the idea that no-till methods are both easier for the gardener and better for the soil.
But how, without tilling, can you make a good surface for a seed to germinate?
Maybe you’re looking at your yard and marking out a plot for a garden, but you have no idea how to get started.
You certainly don’t want to use roundup or any harmful chemicals!
Sure, a spade is an option, but that’s not no-till. And never mind all the bonus visits to the chiropractor!
Yeah, no thanks.
Maybe your current garden is overrun with weeds, and you want to transition to no-till, but you have no idea how.
Or maybe you’re already practicing no-till methods, but you want to expand your toolbox of techniques.
I’ve practiced no-till gardening for 15 years, and I’m convinced it’s better for the soil and easier for the gardener.
But too often I’ve been frustrated from practicing sloppy or wrong techniques.
I could have saved time, energy, money, and yeah, chiropractor visits, had someone sat me down and taught me which no-till techniques work best in each situation.
So I’ve taken my 15 years of experiments and failures and boiled them down to 3 specific techniques I recommend for starting your no-till garden.
And yeah, you might shoot me for the third one, but I still believe in it!
*Plus, I’ll add a really cool BONUS idea at the end.
These 3 methods cover all the basics you’ll need to prepare the ground for your no-till garden or to convert your existing garden to no-till.
These techniques with all their nuances are exactly what I wish someone had explained to me 15 years ago.
Here goes…
