Hey Garden Insiders!

If you’re like me, this latest warm snap (or whatever warm snap you might have in your region) has you feeling a new kind of restlessness.

Yup, if you’re a gardener, your body can tell when the sun is higher, the days are longer, and the air is warmer.

March is GO-time for seed starting.

If you’ve started nothing up until this point, you’re in perfectly fine shape.

But this month is a busier month.

In this post, I’ll describe…

  • Which seeds I start indoors in March, including tips for starting each one

  • Which seeds I start outdoors (if I’m feeling ambitious or if the weather’s just too nice to stay out of the garden!)

  • Which edible perennials I plant in March (Click here to buy your edible perennials and other useful plants.)

  • How I manage my winter garden (cold frames and greenhouse) in March

  • Tips for watering, preparing garden beds, and more.

And as a fun BONUS this month (if you like it I may keep doing it 😃), I added two of my family’s favorite recipes using veggies from our cold storage.

Eating seasonally requires the right recipes, and these two fit the bill perfectly.

One hails from a book every half-serious cook should have Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat: Mastering the Elements of Good Cooking. Seriously, we all noticed the difference in our food when JustFarmerJulie, the head cook in our house started reading this book! I couldn’t recommend this book more.

The other is a roasted beet salad unique to JustFarmerJulie. An absolute favorite of our family that’s perfect for using up those beets and onions in your root cellar or cooler.

Without further ado, here’s what I do in my garden in March (plus the recipes):
